How to change the project owner
The project owner can be changed from the project settings page. Please note that only the current project owner or the organization owner can perform this change. If both the project and organization owners have already left the company and cannot operate, the MagicPod CS team will need to change the organization owner first. Please refer to “Request MagicPod CS Team to change the organization owner” for details.
To change the owner, open the project settings page and click the "Transfer ownership" button at the bottom of the Basic Information tab. A dialog will appear allowing you to select a new owner from the project members. Please review the information shown and select the new owner to complete the change.
As explained in the dialog, after changing the owner, the previous owner will still retain update permissions for the project. If you'd like to remove these permissions, please ask the new owner to update the permissions. Also, if the previous owner will no longer use this project, you will need to remove them from the project.
Regarding the change of project owner when the owner has left the organization
Previously in MagicPod, even if a project owner was removed from the organization members, their name would remain as the "owner" within the project. From version 1.44.0 onward, this specification has changed: if a project owner is removed from the organization members, ownership is now automatically transferred to the organization owner.
However, for projects owned by users who were removed from the organization before version 1.44.0, the removed user's name still appears as the owner, and it is not possible to remove them from the project's member page. Although these users cannot actually access the organization or the project, it appears as if they still have access, which is problematic.
To resolve this inconsistency, starting September 1, 2025, we will automatically transfer ownership of projects owned by users who were removed from the organization before version 1.44.0 to the organization owner. As a result, only users who actually have access will be displayed on the project's member page.
If you wish to manually change the owner before the automatic update, please follow the steps below by August 31, 2025:
1. Log in as the organization owner and open the project settings page.
2. Click the "Transfer ownership" button and set a new owner.
*When changing manually, you can set any project member, not just the organization owner, as the new owner.
