On this page, we shall explain the procedure for running tests on Internet Explorer 11 (hereinafter, IE11). When running a test on IE11, it is necessary for the OS on the Windows machine to be Windows 10 or Windows Server 2016.
There are some limitations on Selenium, the automated test tool on which MagicPodDesktop is based, so some preparation will be required before testing on IE11.
- Install the Windows Application Driver
- Zoom rate settings
- Standardization of protection mode settings
- Disable extended protected mode
- If you are using a high-resolution PC
- *When testing on Windows 11
1. Install the Windows Application Driver
This is a tool to automatically operate objects on Windows machines. It is not included with MagicPodDesktop, so it is necessary to install this separately.
Download and run the WindowsApplicationDriver.msi installer here, and install the Windows Application Driver on the local PC.
Next, turn ON Windows developer mode. Open For developers from Settings.
Enable Developer Mode.
“Turning on developer mode, including installing and running apps from outside the Microsoft Store, could expose your device and personal data to security risks or harm your device.” The previous sentence will be displayed in a dialog box. Once you select Yes and the selection is enabled, restart the PC. This completes the setup of the Windows Application Driver.
2. Zoom rate settings
Open IE11, and click the settings (cog) icon in the top right to set the zoom rate to 100%.
3. Standardization of protection mode settings
Open Internet options from the settings icon in the same way.
Select the Security tab. There are the four zones of Internet, Local Intranet, Trusted sites, and Restricted sites, so check Enable Protected Mode in relation to each zone. (It is a restriction of Selenium in that the checks should be uniform across all zones, so it will work even with all of them removed.)
4. Disable extended protected mode
In the same way, open the Advanced tab in Internet Options and remove the check from Enable Exhanced Protected Mode under Security in the settings, if it is checked.
5. If you are using a high-resolution PC
If you are using a high-resolution PC (i.e., 1920 x 1080, etc.), the aforementioned IE11 zoom rate may default to 150%, 200%, etc. Even in this case, you will need to set the zoom rate to 100% or MagicPod will not work. If the zoom rate is set to 100% at high resolutions, text and images will become smaller and very difficult to read, so we recommend setting a slightly lower resolution setting for the display on which MagicPod will be used.
You can change the resolution under System > Display > Scale and Display resolution in Windows settings. Furthermore, be sure to set Change the size of text, apps, and other items in the same section to 100%.
6. *When testing on Windows 11
*Only Edge Internet Explorer Mode has been confirmed to work.
3. Standardization of protection mode settings and 4. Disable extended protected mode differs from Windows 10.
First, search for Edit group policy in Settings and open Edit group policy.
Standardization of protection mode settings
Go to Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Internet Control Panel > Security Page.
Set Turn on Protected Mode to Enabled for all 10 Zones Internet Zone to Trusted Sites Zone.

Disable extended protected mode
Return to the previous hierarchy as before.
Go to Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Internet Control Panel > Advanced Page.
Set Turn on Enhanced Protected Mode to Disabled.
